What is Purpurra thinking? I recall at least 9 games we lost as a direct result of Garner's bad gameday decisions this year - especially in respect to pitching management. 9 more wins would have gotten us into the playoffs, baby. It seems the people who live in Houston have an irrational sentimental attachment to him. He should have done better this year with the talented players he has - don't wanna hear it's the offense's fault, either. The talent was there to win the 1-0 or 2-1 games - especially with our stellar D.

3 more wins would have gotten us in. Purpura looks at the last 30 games to determine anything. Garner putting in Orlando Palmerio to pinch hit for a PITCHER hitting better then him should make people wonder. Putting Lidge in as a closer when we had a "bullpen by committee" should make people wonder. Putting Qualls in against the Black Sox should make people wonder. The Astros should have put Scrap-Iron in the scrap heap when they had the chance to have Cecil manage. Look at the games Garner's been suspended from, we won. Garner has no real baseball sense. His constant rotating 5th pitcher showed this. Garner just didn't know what pitcher to put in when. Qualls and Lidge went in just because it was a save or hold opportunity. Garner got where he did last year because there wasn't a bad pitcher to put in. He should be shelved and Dusty Baker should have came to the 'Stros, where they can play at the caliber of an AL team for once. It defiantly isn't the offense's fault. Runs were there, but late pitching support just wasn't.

Agreed. Phil Garner should be axed.

The offense was awful all year...a lot of that has to do with how Garner managed the lineup. He stuck with non-producers for too long and didn't give enough of a chance to good performers (i.e. Luke Scott) until late in the season - when it was too late to catch the Cardinals.

With the talent on that team, they should have won 95 games in a WEAK central division. I heard that Garner is too chummy with the players...that's a recipe for under performance if there ever was one.

I dont understand that Tim guy, yet i become very happy whilst Phil Garner have been given fired because of fact the Tiger's supervisor a number of years in the past. That become a present day from the baseball Gods. I enjoyed him as a participant, yet i genuinely didnt like him as a manger.

they arent that bad, cards were red hot beginning and middle of the season which got them a good sized lead. And having played baseball up and into college, to say "oh only 9 more games we would have made it" is a lot harder then you think. Oh and by the way werent they in the world series last year?

Phil wasn't swinging the bats, then again neither were any of his players. You have to score to win, and if you don't the blame has to fall somewhere.

Fire him, and the GM!

I don't think Phil should be fired. I do think Buddy Bell and Joe
Maddon should be fired and maybee even Eric Wedge.
