The actual quote, attributed by biblical scholars to an ancient Hebrew text is: "if you really want to shame your enemies, forgive them."

I like the Oscar Wilde version better, but unfortunately he did borrow it, as have many others with similar modern quotes.

Whoever it was must have had really stupid enemies?

Nothing pisses me off more than having my nemesis blow me up, stab me, shoot me in the as*s, or kick me in the face! These do it for me over forgivness any day!

Must have been Lao Tzu or someone like that? Most philosophy, only works on the majority of humanity in theory!
