um, depends on what kind of stories you mean. "the boogie man is gonna get you", that kind of thing, is something that I don't think causes THAT much damage, but every child is different; if it seems like a particular child is taking a scary story very seriously, then i would say it is bad to expose that child to scary stories; but a lot of kids could care less. as for horror films and such, i say no, until they are at least in high school. no matter if they think they are funny or scary, i don't think kids need to see that kind of stuff.

If you a talking about fairy tales and some of the classics, yes it is right to teach them the stories. They should be taught that they are not real, but stories to entertain. Children tend to become frightened when they believe the tales are 'real life' and feel threatened.

Stories are not in tented to bring any historical facts, but to develop the children's power of imagination- and they are perfectly working.
By the way what real stories you want to teach children? The story of our cruel and bloodthirsty kings? The story of our invaders? The story how religions spread across the world?
We have taught them enough of these stories and we are reaping the grains now.

Stories for children. Movies for Grown-ups. Old-time blah blah for aged. We all need some imagination to lean on, isn't it?
What is a story basically? most of the stories are the mind's longing to break away from this ever-restricting body and go freely flying in all dimensions. Every human soul needs/longs for it. children are no exemption.

Stories, fairy tales and myths are important to teach to children. They can impart beliefs and attitudes toward others that the child shares its world with, in a way that nothing else besides watching the behavior of their caretakers can.

which stories? Just because something is imaginary doesn't mean it scares them...and having such imaginary stories and friends can help a child's creativity.

It's OK, as long as the kids are well aware that it is imaginary. I see no problem with stories of bogeys, ghouls, gods and monsters as long as you make sure they know it's not real.

Of what stories speaketh thou, cool boy?
You need to be a little more specific. No, it's not okay to tell your child scary stories just so they'll be scared...no.
But if it's got a moral and a happy ending in it, I'm all for it.
