One of the basic laws laid down by both the bible and the Koran is that man should not worship graven images. IE. to worship a picture of Allah or Jesus is basically idolatry. The christian faith got around this by claiming that they were, for example, worshiping the true Jesus and only using pictures as an aid. Muslims however took the Koran at its word and to this day do not display or depict any creature or god. This does not mean that Islam has no sense of aesthetic, it just means that they see the beautiful in other things. Calligraphy and the production of gods word is beauty to a Muslim as is music and dance. Only one mosque has a hint of a creature on it and that is the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.

Most islamic governments do not accept art, and seek to distroy it.. Remember when the taliban had all of the Buddist statutes(thousands of year sold) distroyed.
In an Islamic world there would be no tv, newspapers, radio, art, books(outside of the religious few who could enjoy these things.).
There is no basic faith in Islam. It like christianity was founded on untruths, and maintains it's hold today with force as it it created converts though force.
