Salt works any time. I have pulled red wine stains from pale linen shoes days after the party. Also, have removed red wine staines from baby blue cotton shorts with Naptha soap.
Dampen the stain and then pour a pile of salt on the stain. The salt will pull the wine out of the carpet. Repeat this process until the stain is completely gone. Then, lightly scrub the spot with a the Naptha soap to remove that yellowy tanin residue that wine leaves behind.
DON'T USE BLEACH UNLESS YOU WANT TO REPLACE YOUR WINE STAIN WITH A FADED UCKY SPOT.

Club soda and a clean rag. Pour the club soda on and blot with the rag until the stain is gone.
Good Luck wine is hard to remove from carpets.

you use salt. put a lot on it as it absorbs all the wine. leave it for a while. if you can overnight. then hoover it away. i tell you, i saw this happening at my friends house with red whine. once all the wine has been absorbed then hoovered pass on it a damp cloth.
hope you get that stain off!

Salt only really works if you get it when it happens. Go with Club Soda.
