You can only tame a person that wants to be tamed. You can discuss your issues with this person, but sometimes we have to accept people as they are. If everyone were the same, we'd be bored.
What attracted you to this person to begin with? The things you want to change? Maybe you can learn from this individual and build your confidence up instead and trying to tear theirs down!
