Because it is the only way they feel powerful in their lives. They are usually pathetic little men who can't stand up to another man or anyone else and they are afraid their wife well realize who pathetic they are and leave them. So they figure if they control everything the wife does she won't be able to leave. It doesn't make sense but that is what they do.
For every man who hits his wife there should be an exquaterback brother-in-law waiting for him. I my perfect world anyway.

Not all men do. The men who do this, in my opinion, have low self-esteem and are insecure, and feel like they need to "control" their partners so that their partners won't leave them.
By the way, you might do better to put this in a more appropriate forum - it's not music-related, it's relationship-related or psychology-related. Just my opinion.

They really feel insecure in their own minds so they try to control their wives to give them a power trip. It is an illness.
