A friend of mine in India belonging to so called upper caste wants to marry a girl from so called lower caste with respected social status. But my friend's parents are against it. How do you think parents can be convinced so that everyone is happy

India is a diverse, multi-cultural country with people of various religions and sects living together in harmony and peace. Each religion has its own set of rites and rituals, traditions and multitudes of customs inherited from ancestors. Marriage is an important social event for the family It is not only a union of two souls and two individuals but also of two families and in some cases union of two villages.

An inter-caste marriage raises more than just quizzical eyebrows. Weddings being all about tradition, customs and rituals, the differences are many. By and large these are marriages of choice or what we generally call love marriages where the girl and the boy make the initial decision to come together in a martial alliance. There may be resistance from the parents, making an inter-caste alliance into a more complicated "arrangement" than even the arranged ones.

My advice: The boy should wait for some time and refuse other offers. Let the parents reconcile with the idea of their son marring out of caste (let not there no head on collisions) as unpleasantness creates problems later after the marriage and create stress between parents and son and may ultimately affect the marriage too. In the mean time the would be bride may be gently introduced to the parents, hopefully they they will ultimately relent and agree.
Good Luck>

These are NOT inter caste marriages. They are inter- "community" marriages. Go that? Caste is something entirely different. And yes, they wrork. Most ppl in India have arranged marriages and such marriages are always made out of love, but they work brilliantly. I have a marathi sister-in-law and I am kashmiri. My brother learnt marathi for her, and she is learning(trying to) learn kashmiri. They both converse either in english or hindi. Such marriages work easily. They are both from same caste though- my sister-in-law was also brahman and we are also brahmans. Caste is different! And, inter caste marriages also work, by the way. No problem. Even inter-religious marriages work. Even muslim women marry non-muslim men, no problem in that even! Morover, when u say a gujrati marrying a panjabi jatt, it may mean inter-religious marriage cause the gujrati might be muslim or cristian or whatever! So, marriages work. Well, ppl here spent days and months trying to convince parents that they serious about their gfs/bfs and it is not a childish immature infatuation.. why wud they let all that hard work go waste??? The divorse rate for such marriages is also same as usual marriages- that is, next to nil! Take care...hope I helped! :) EDIT: Oh yeah, if u search for caste, u will only find hindu caste info..but rest assured, there are castes in all religions in India- including cristianity and islma and sikkhism. I think all except jainism and buddhism! Bye. :)

Now a days, the cast & creed is of no value. we realige that just taking birth in upper/lower caste is not a successed life. To acheive some good goal, we should get better education & not the birth in upper cast. There are many upper cast persons, not even living like human beings. So forget about CAST & remember about only knowledge.

If your match is suitable & accepted to you both, then ask your parents to come out of the well & enjoy the fresh air of this beutiful world.

I hope they are wise enough to understand this simple logic, to make every body happy.

The Indian caste mentality is very hard to break. This person has to make his parents understand how the world has changed, and this can be very difficult. He should inform them that this is his decision. In addition, that he will wait for their approval, without their approval, he will not continue it. He should also preface it with that he will marry no one else. All Indian parents have one concern for their children and that is to get married. It's a huge huge thing in India, and is very intrigue in our community - hence arranged marriages and such. When he tells them that he will marry no one else but this girl, they will eventually cave. In addition, he won't loose their disrespect by running away and marrying this girl. Parents are extremely important, and if you treat them with respect, they will let go their opinions and eventually agree. Good luck!

well, the caste system is dying out but for those upper caste people, they will never understand. He will no longer be high class if he marrys her but he shouldnt care. If he loves her, he should choose love over society! They should still try to talk to the parents. If all else fails, tell him to save up and marry and move to america!

Such marriages are common in India. The mindset is changing slowly towards accepting such relations. In course of time such marriages will become common. Educate the parents by creating the awareness that all human beings are one and all religions are praying the same God though through different styles.Make them aware that India will become one and different idealogies on which we fight and destroy our peace and possible development of the counttry by accepting boys and girls from different religions and areas.

TELL THE PARENTS THAT INTER CAST MARRIAGE IS GOOD FOR HAVING HEALTHY CHILDREN IT IS SCIENCE TIC FACT. YOU GO FOR GOOD WIFE DO NOT GO FOR GOOD CASTE. LIFE IS HORRIBLE IF YOUR WIFE COULD NOT ADJUST HERSELF IN YOUR FAMILY. LIKE THIS THINGS WILL HELP TO CONVINCING THE PARENTS.

they will never understand since social statuses are so seperated over there. tell your friend that if he really loves her that he should marry her reguardless of what everyone else says. plus they could always move away.
