Retired from a tobacco company - this is ABSOLUTELY TRUE....that's why I think it's so funny when people keep attacking the tobacco industry..kind of like be careful what you wish for.... one tobacco company is the largest tax paying company in the USA!

Governments could just ban the manufacture, transportation, or possesion of tobacco outright if they wanted to. Like other drugs. But it's too big of a cash cow for them. They are, essentially, in partnership with Big Tobacco for a cut of the action. Health of the public be damned.

false. Taxation can not be any where near profit. You have Federal and State and local taxes in Mind? Or just Federal.
I paid $2.29 for gas today. The feds or the State could drop the tax on gas for elections and make some points with me.
Oil company profits are at record levels. If I were you I would buy some stock in oil companies. Or you could buy some stock in Halliburton, Cheney has lots of that stock. They are also at record profits.

This has to be true, I remember when cigarettes sold for $.25 cents a pack! Now they cost over $5! Inflation may have raised the cost of making them but there are also devices that do it cheaper! So the govt is making all that dough!

Yes, I would have to agree, but since they can get away with that they do. Smoking is bad for you right so make people pay extra to exercise that right? The government will take every advantage it can. I can't say if I agree but, it is what it is.
