I have a hard time believing that all the men I deal with every day are this stupid. At work, they seem to have no clue where anything is or how to find it...however at any given moment can tell you exactly how much money is in the bank and who owes how much. You wouldn't actually be able to find your way into the receivables system to look at the information though...you just know it. You can't dial a number on the fax machine and press start but you can build a house, a commercial complex or a 50 story sky scraper...I'm not getting it. Is it the attention you like? Obviously your not lazy...at work anyway, so is it attention? Are you just trying to see how much you can get someone else to do for you?

No I wasn't trying to say sly as a fox...that would imply that there IS something going on between your ears.....I said what I meant to say...dummy.

Sorry Chris, your off. No I'm not in the accounting department and I don't send faxes for a living, these are just things I notice, not just here...but everywhere. In my opinion, if you want to ask someone to do something for you...you should ask. Why stand in front of a computer, fax machine or copier and play dumb until someone feels sorry for you and does it?

Don't worry, all the guys out there don't seem to be understanding "dumb like a fox" but I know exactly what you are saying!
Based on my own personal experience in work situations AND at home I wold have to say men have SELECTIVE memory. They certainly have the capability to remember details and events that have great importance to them personally -sports scores and statistics and as you already mentioned, anything that has to do with money but for some reason they can't remember that Monday is trash day even if it's been the same day for 15 years . I don't think it's that they want attention. They just want other people (women) to take care of the details they won't want to handle.
Let's take this one step further: How many men do you know (and I personally know several) that will do something you asked them to do but do it incorrectly and mess things us so bad that they know you will never ask them to do it again?

I work with all men well almost all men at my job.And I would have to say 70% are dumb or play dumb.I think most of them play dumb so they will have somebody else do the job.And I can dial a fax number a push the start button but I can't build a 50 story sky scraper. We have men here that have worked here for years and still can't do anything with out help....

i'm not sure what this question is actually asking, but i hope i can add some insight to what i think is bothering you. It sounds like you work at a company where you have an accounting / secretarial role and you have men in higher paying positions working with some type of construction activities. Those men apparently know their job, how to do it, and know the pertinent information related to what makes their world go round, but not necessarily the details on how to get that info. It sounds like your job is detail oriented regarding the money... paying bills, managing the accounting system, finding tidbits of information. My impression is that you're complaining these people are asking you for details that your job has the skill set to do. You want them to know how to get those tidbits of info they're looking for. That's not their job is it? And if they knew how to do your job and were on a payscale to do your job, you likely wouldnt' be there. Based on the little info given, this is what it sounds like.
You realize these people are smart and can figure stuff out, but why would they bother figuring out the details of your job? Do you know how to do their job? Do you think they complain behind your back that you know all these nuances of the accounting system but wouldn't know a sewer utility connection permit from a sheet of toilet paper?

Some guys are very capable, but they have what is called "learned helplessness". Guys are used to having mommy around to do everything for them, or having her there for help. Every guy needs a little mothering now and again. I admit, at times I have asked my secretary at work how to use the coffee maker. In my defense, it is a lot more complicated than the one I have at home, lots of buttons. I know I should do it on my own, but I dont want to risk making a mistake that will cause a mess for someone to clean later. It is better to get something right the first time with some assistance. At least he is humble enough to ask for help, rather than make an *** of himself without any help. I am trying to be courteous, and I always make sure to show my appreciation for their help, but some guys are lazy. There are some things that can obviously be done on their own, but they choose to be idiots to get someone to do it for them. That is what corporate America is all about.

Hmm, well partially laziness I suspect, but two things that are probably true:
- Men don't multitask as well as women, but they may be better at blocking things out to focus on one task, particularly an analytical one. Neither is 'better' its just different. So men can accomplish lots of things, but are not as good - in general - as women at being aware of lots of small things.
- I know I can't find things nearly as well as my wife, and I think that's common.
Like it or not, for a lot of human evolution, men headed out either alone or in top-down controlled groups, grunted a bit, and figured out what angle to lob a spear to hit a moving target in a split second. Women cared for children while gathering fruits etc and keeping family units intact, likely acting in a more collaborative and consensus oriented fashion. Some of these traits still persist.

Hello "Sasha",
Well, I guess attention is a part of it. For me, its mostly stress from trying to do multi-tasking. It's hard for me to remember with all that pressure on me and this causes me to not dial good, use a fax machine, and so on. I'm trying my best to get a hold of multi-tasking but I still have trouble. Sorry if you hate people like me, but I'm just trying to get by in the world. Most regards to you and hope this helps your question. *bows*
Respectfully,
GrayFox
