Shut it down.

Putting it into hibernation will shut it down but will not erase the RAM.

it depends on how long your not going to use it if for less then an hour you can keep it on Hibernate.'
However if you been on it for a long time you may still want to shut down however if your going to be gone more then an hour then the answer is always shut down unless you got some real need to boot the computer real fast.

Why ?
all devices have a thing which is MTBF(mean time before average failure of the device this is rated in hours and while in stand by you are still burning those hours as the laptop is still on

When it goes into to hibernation is shuts down, just stores all your stuff in the memory on your hard drive, so you lose some hard drive space.

if ur going to use it soon hibernate. but if ur going to use it like tommorrow, shut it down completely. hibernate saves ur data but still uses small amounts of power, but shut down uses no power and saves data

shut it down the laptop has a lil fan it is better to cool it off with out using that fan
