I also agree that you are probably looking for a Golden Chain Tree. I live in zone 5b and have seen several mature trees in the area. They are also sold at most local garden centers near me, just to assure you on the hardiness. Call your local garden centers to see if they have any or if they are getting any the following spring. Most plantings i have seen have used the Golden Chain Tree to design a hollow where the trees weep in on each other to form an arch. It looks great in the spring.

I can't help you find it...

I think by yellow chain tree, you might be referring to Laburnum x watereri. I've never heard it called yellow chain, I've always seen/ said golden chain tree. I just wanted to help with the name thing, because that might be a reason you can't find it.

It isn't a common tree in the horticulture industry. I'd check with your local independent garden center. They may only carry a few through the season, so I'd check in early spring.

It's a really nice tree, I hope you can find one
Good luck-

They will grow in zone 4-8 so if you're 5 (which you probably are) you're OK. I know you can get them from Michigan Bulb if you can't find them at a nearby L&G Center.
