Fortunately no. What a huge waste of money. My suggestion? Put that money into a 529 (college fund) instead.

My son had his first party with around 50-75 guests. I don't know if I would call it extravagant, but it was pretty special. I did all the party planning and decorating as that is what I enjoy doing and what my start-up company is about.

All I can say is less is more. You child will not remember the event and unless there will be lots of kids there, there is no reason to get "all the works."

Parties that I have been involved with recently are pretty simple. You want your quests to be comfortable, especially being that it is a birthday party. Obviously coordinate your invitations with the party theme. Whether is be by color, shapes, etc. I recently held a shower for a girl who them was pink and orange gerber daisies. It was very beautiful and simple. The invitations were hand-made by me and the cake had real daises on it. And then there were just bouquets around to help decorate. Napkins and such were also pink and orange.

Have a good time planning it! And remember! It is a party...so make it enjoyable for those who are there.

Umm, well, we did about 75 guests, catered it in from a local restaurant and had TONS of decorations, but we did them. Her first birthday was all girl care bears and it was adorable. Factory Card outlet carried the stuff, it was about $300-350 for decorations and food was about $600. Cake was made by a bakery for about $170. We had music by a local person, that was only $100 and a clown, ($75) which she was scared of lol! We had a magic show scheduled ($150), but they had to cancel due to an emergency. So....I dunno if that is extravagant, but it was a great party!

My son is turning 1 tomorrow. We are having about 10 people over for hot dogs and hamburgers. I am making the cake myself though and that is as extravagant as I will get.

I just wanted to add that I am not trying to be mean. I am just jealous. I would love to be able to afford to have a great party like that for my son. Have fun at his party and take a ton of pics. Maybe put disposable camera's on all of the tables so you get a variety of pics. After all, they only turn one once right?

If you're rich and you live in that kind of environment or socialize with high society than I guess you would have an extravagant party......

but if you're average middle class like most of us.......then you don't have to go all out.......your baby won't know a thing of what's going on......not at least until they're 3 years old.....

Not for a birthday party, but for a baptism. They had it set like a wedding at a banquet hall with a sit down dinner, open bar and a dj. I think they were nuts to go to this much expense. But that is just my personal feeling.

Yes, I have for my baby. He just runed 1 on sept. 20th. But, we live in Mexico so I don't know if I could help you in any way. Yes, you spend lots of money, and no, the kid won't remember. But, at the moment, he was really happy and excited with everything. There's video and pics, there were lots of candy and food, and he got lots of presents. It was a lot of work, I ended up extremely tired, but it was all worth it.

If you have any more questions just e-mail me.

NO!!!! That is just silly -- For my own two children I just had a small cake, a bit of a dinner out, and nothing more. I was on Active Duty with the Military -- and this was ENOUGH. Too many dependent spouses had this big parties, and it was DISGUSTING - - because they only wanted the party for THEMSELVES and NOT for the child.
