Well, I have to support myself so I definitely would have to stay at a job with a jerk boss. But, I would use my time at home to search for something different. I DID have a jerk boss, and I was a single mother at the time. He yelled at me for changing the thermostat while he was gone. (It was 61 degrees and I couldn't type because my hands were so cold.). He turned so red I thought he would need CPR (in his 60's). Then he stormed out of the building. He didn't talk to me for a week. Then it was all over. Soon after that, he started leaving whenever he got mad at someone (which was very often), so it must have scared him as much as it scared me. He got a little better to work for, but he was used to being a major in the air force and ordering people around and just never really calmed it down. His replacement at retirement was a wonder to work for so I was glad I stuck it out.

Even if you don't have to support yourself, you ought to keep the job until you have another. That will look better on your job history for future changes. And as you look now, do NOT complain about your current boss. That makes you sound like a complainer and you never know who knows your boss and might tell him. Think of some other good reason to explain your wish to leave, like the opportunity to advance or increase in pay.

It all depends on how bad the job is. If it's ruining your health, quit. It you can tolerate, but just don't like it, stick with it until you find another job. It's much easier to find a job if you have one. Nearly every boss I ever had was a jerk. When I was a boss, I was a jerk too. You have to be to get some people to work. That's life. What you should look for is a job that has a minimum of supervision so some *sshole isn't looking over your shoulder all the time.

I had a boss who ws a jerk and I performed the job best to my ability, but when I started the job, he wasn't a jerk. After I been there for awhile, he started jerking me around. I couldn't take it anymore, so I decided to find another job. However, my job was a short term temp assignment, but I didn't know that the agency I signed up for wouldn't be able to place me in any more jobs because I have NO background. So, I waited for 4 months that was when a long term position came in. So,if it is a boss you can't take take it anymore, I hope you have your family support you until you can find something else. Good Luck.

Stick it out until something better comes along but be sure you're really actively seeking something else. If the boss does something completely over the edge and you absolutely can't stand it anymore then put in your two weeks and pray you find something else shortly after your last day. Lots of luck to you!

Stick it out, do your very best on the job, and look for something new on the side. If the prospective new employer calls the old boss, you want him to hear nothing but good about you.

Would you be able to hang in there a little while longer?…Perhaps consider on looking at working from home, being your own boss as Robert Kiyosaki suggests, from his Rich Dad Poor Dad book "The Business School". You can do this until you make enough residual income to replace the income you're making at work now and you can finally walk away and say BYE! Check out our Proven Formula at http://www.mywayoutonline.com/ access code 108306 and watch everything unfold before your eyes how the business is done. It's incredible and worth a look see! Check it out with the BBB (better business bureau) as well! Do that with everything you look at!
Good luck on your endeavor!

I am in the same situation. My choice is to stay but keep looking for another job. It is tough cause I actually despise going to work. My boss is unfriendly, uncaring and a whip cracker. She doesn't care about anybody but herself. I just do my job and grin and bear it. Sorry. I have bills to pay and they won't get paid if I quit. Maybe they will fire her soon, since she is not doing a good job and has complaints against her. Just hang in there.

stick it out til you find something else. You gotta pay the bills and the bill collector doesn't care if you don't have a job. When you interview for prospective jobs please don't tell them you are changing jobs cuz your boss is a jerk though...you won't get hired!!
