They have cans of spray on stuff that patch the textures like this. Go to a paint store or hardware store and look. I have done this before it is as easy as using a spray can. About $10 a can.

There are a few products in the paint section of both Lowe's and Home Depot that I've used. They come in spray cans and you'll need to look at the cans and read to determine which of the types you need (according to what size popcorn you need). Be prepared with eye protection and clothing that you don't mind getting stuff on, because it's messy spraying above your head with any of this stuff, move all furniture and stuff away from the area, too. Spray it in very short bursts, you might have to let your first attempt dry and then spray again to get it right, and perhaps even shape it to make it look just right with your fingers (put latex gloves on). If you don't get it right the first time, it's easy to scrape off and start over. It ranges from $5.00 to $9.00 per can. You'll probably only need one can, and that will let you do several repairs.

At Lowe's or Home Depot they have cans of the popcorn spray and it's like a hairspray aerosol can and you spray it on. Your trouble might come if the spray is too white and makes it show up on an older ceiling. What I would do is to get a small bottle of light grey or white acrylic water base paint and dab it on the dry popcorn spray if that is an issue for you.
Good luck!

I've bought stuff at Home Depot that can be used to patch popcorn ceilings. For largish spots there are spray cans...for small spots there is a tube which is squeezed to blob out bits of the material. You may need to priime and paint after you are done.

I had a large spot to repair, so I bought a gallon of " popcorn ceiling texture" you need to buy the roller that is made to apply the popcorn ceiling. for small repairs, I just use drywall mud & the putty knife. spread out the mud then push the flat of the blade into the mud then pull straight down. takes a lil practice. don't forget to prime it before you paint it. for popcorn ceilings, sweep it with a broom then prime it with an alkyd (oil based) primer/ sealer. if you use water base primer/ sealer, the ceiling will disolve &/or peel off

I would hire a professional to do it. From what I understand you would need a special machine and the materials, which would probably cost more than just having someone who knows what they are doing to patch it.

You might try gluing pop corn in that spot.
Well anyway I tried to fix it once and made it worse.
I will keep looking for an answer that I can do.
