I cannot remember the series of books, but they are funny and enjoyable. They are about this old guy who by the Emperor's choosing goes around solving crimes in ancient China. He has an assistant to carry him around whose name was Number 10 Ox. Very good stories. Maybe some one on this site can find out what the authors name is or you could just go to the Library of Congress' website at: loc.gov and check them out yourself.
