The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia, a specialized form of triskaidekaphobia, a phobia (fear) of the number thirteen.
Some historians propose that the origin of the "Black Friday" was the simultaneous arrest of hundreds of Knights Templars on October 13, 1307 (Friday), to be later tortured into admitting heresy.
Psychologists have found that some people are especially likely to have accidents or fall ill on Friday the 13th[citation needed]. This has been attributed to such people feeling a heightened state of anxiety on that day (see nocebo effect).

I am NOT superstitious of Friday the 13th. I have some superstitions of certain things, though. But the 13th on a Friday, is not one of them. The funny thing is, even though I am superstitious of certain things, I know when I am being that way, I am realizing at that time, that I am being a little ridiculous. But I can't seem to stop that feeling. Kind of silly, I know. I guess that is what being superstitious is being about. (???) I hope that made sense to you as it didn't to me. lol

There are several anecdotes about bad things happening on Fridays (Christ's crucifixion being the most well-known).

There are also several anecdotes about bad things being tied to the number 13 (Judas Iscariot being 13th to the table at the Last Supper).

It's not so much that Friday the 13th is inherently bad, but that Fridays and 13s are two great tastes that taste great together.

When I was a little girl if we had a field trip planned for "Friday the 13th" my mom wouldn't let us go. Now I'm the mom and I asked her why and she said something bad could happen to you on the field trip. Today my son is at school and they are going to the Fire Station for a field trip. I figure at the Fire House is about as safe as anywhere. And if it wasn't to the Fire Department I'd still let him go, because accidents are going to happen anywhere and anytime and I will not deny him the chance to see something different just because of a date.

Some people believe that the day os unlucky for lots of reasons. Jesus died on a Friday. There are supposedly 13 circles of Hell. Witches would practice black magic in packs of 13. Lots of reasons. Another thing, doctors recommend that people stay inside on that day because car crashes seem to go up by 58%. All in all, most people believe its just superstition.
