Spiko is correct. The bank clearly believe that the money is stolen, perhaps you're a student, unemployed ect.
You have to be the one to prove the money to be legitamate....goodluck

No its up to you to prove its not stolen. The law says you have to prove where the money come from. It could be from the proceeds of crime and hence you need to prove its not. Its guilty until proved innocent by you.
So who's been money laundering then!!
PS. Whats the account number and sort code?

What is "bad" money? Stolen or counterfeit?
Either way, if the bank is right, you've got some explaining to do!

If you deposit over a certain amount and it is not an amount you would normally deposit the bank has to inform the police. It is up to you to prove it is a legitimate deposit. If not ....kiss goodbye to it and expect a call from the local plod !!

I wouldn't have thought so. What if the sum appeared due to an admin error on their part? I'm sure this happens more times than we realise and don't think that you would be able to keep it as it's not yours.

Why would you want it when you don't know where it came from? This could be very dangerous be careful. Why don't you ask the police to look into it for you.
