2 semesters ago I had a professor who said hes active in the Democratic party and always voted Democrat but once he voted for a Republican only because the Republican is black who won and turned out to be pretty corrupt in the end. So is he racist to base his vote purely on the fact that the guy running is black?

He spoke about his political beliefs because it was a political science class, I took both his state and federal government courses. We always discussed our own views in class. I do not see anything wrong with professors stating there views, only problem is fear that he will give you a lower grade for not agreeing with what you wrote, but so far I have never had that problem

Assuming what you said is true, he obviously voted for the guy because he was black. That's the very definition of racism.*

BTW. Why did your professor talk about his political beliefs? It's inappropriate in the classroom, whether at the K-12 or college level.

I don't think it was racist...just trying to give a hand to a candidate that he thought might need an extra vote. Misguided, perhaps even reverse discrimination, but voting based on color of skin is not racist. Like Linda D wrote, we all vote based on physical characteristics or other things (not political things) because we're human and can't help it. Look at Bush - most people who voted for him did so because they felt they could "have a beer with him" it's the same sort of thing...what does that have to do with how good of a candidate a person is? Nothing. Look at the presidents before TV (after the country got big enough that the most people wouldn't ever see them)....I doubt any of them would get elected today because of the way they look. Since TV, candidates have gotten better looking and more charismatic, they have stylists and image consultants. Why? What does that have to do with being president? NOTHING but that's the way the people vote.

looks like she made an awkward slip up. do no longer over react she did no longer truthfully say something derogatory purely that there have been 2 darkish skinned human beings and style became sturdy in the previous realising that sounded somewhat racist . attempt conversing to her in inner maximum if it nonetheless bothers you. or you are able to desire to easily forget approximately it and he or she how she acts from now on ( that's what i prefer to advise, making a fuss over somebody who might have made a minor pretend pas rather than a racist remark might label you continuously interior the eyes of your friends as overly gentle person who's keen to play the race card on the drop of a hat.).

He was bending over backwards to give some a chance at doing something....this is reverse descrimination, not racism. It rarely works, but that is not the point.

No, because we all vote consciously or unconsciously for our candidates. Take a government class. A lot of us vote the way a person look, act, smile, ethnic background, just because they live in our town, because our relatives/friends vote for them, etc. Most voters have not educated themselves enough on the candidates, so we just go out and vote to say we voted.

I agree w/the first responder, that this is reverse discrimination, not racism. Sounds like the prof. thinks Blacks still deserve more help, such as affirmative action, to offset the rampant bigotry that still prevails. There's nothing wrong with this, IMO, since your prof. has the right to vote for whomever he wants! Isnt it SUPPOSED to be a "free" country?!

Yes. That's like voting for someone because they wear polka dot pants. Your professor's a fruit loop.

Just another sad-sack "professor" is what he sounds like to me; apparently, he's among the vast majority in our nation's colleges and universities.
