SATs do not degrade any student. It is simply a test that places all students on an equal measurable standard. This allows college to assess the student much more accurately.
Many states have grade requirements for their schools to meet to keep funding. Others have state scholarships for their universities based on High School grade. Both of the situations have been shown to artificially inflate the a student GPA. The SAT balances this out.

It's a standardized test. Just because a person has a high gpa does not mean that he/she knows the standard material necessary to succeed in college. If a student takes only the bare minimum to graduate, and then fills up with art and pe classes, it doesn't mean he/she understands math and english. The best place to look information regarding studies and papers on this subject is on ERIC- Education Resources Information Center. You might want to search using the tear Standardized tests.

The true fact is you DO NOT have to take SAT Tests. You can go through college without taking them. Sure, a college will look at the scores just to see your knowledge, but you do not need them to get into a college. Try to work that into your paper.
But, to really answer your question....Colleges use these scores to gain insight on the different types of people applying to their school as well as their intelligence. As with many rules/guidelines everyone needs to follow, SATs are merely a college's "company policy" per say. You wouldn't go to the DMV expecting to get a driver's license based upon a note from your parents or peers. You would have to follow their procedures to get your license. Its somewhat the same for colleges, part of the application procedure. Make any sense??

I'm sorry that I can't provide any resources, but I do remember writing on this same issue years ago. One of the points that I made that went over well was that the SAT is designed to measure how smart a student is, and not how hard they work. I pointed out that to be smart and lazy doesn't get you anywhere, while being a little less academically gifted but motivated can get you very far. Just an idea.

Look at online news sources. This topic is always in the news. Personally, I think you would be better off choosing another topic. This isn't a great one to do. My opinion: GPA isn't a great factor in determining intelligence because the student could have gone to a really bad school and did well when the subjects weren't that challenging. Because of that she could have a high GPA but still bomb the SAT because she wasn't really prepared. It does not degrade students.

When you have a high GPA that doesn't tell the colleges anything about how you compare to the rest of their applicant pool. You might be the smartest kid in the dumbest high school or you might be at a school that has serious grade inflation so that everyone who shows up for class gets an A. The beauty of the SAT is that everyone is taking the same test so comparisons are easier.

I'll give you the answer right here. You can have an outstanding GPA and still be deficient in many subjects. That's why the SATs cover so many topics. You don't merely have to take ONE subject in college. There are many other required courses that have virtually nothing to do with your major/minor.It's to evaluate your proficiency in many areas.

Not for sure - but I believe colleges like the "standardized" test to see a true test of abilities. As every HS is a bit different.
