Would you buy a car without taking it for a test drive? Of course not. So ya, move in together and see if it works.

Well for one thing if you move in together before you get married you run the risk of breaking up and one person being left holding the bag for all of the bills. If you rent and you both are on the lease, one partner can move out and leave the other partner to pay ALL of the rent and bills. If you purchase a home together prior to marriage and you break up then what happens to the house has to be decided, if both want the house they will have to go to court where a judge will have to determine who is more financially suited to paying the mortgage on the house and that person will likely be the sole owner of the house. Or the other partner will have to buy him/her out of their share of the house.
The idea that if you live together successfully without marriage then the marriage will be successful is rediculous because once you get married you are no longer single and there is no guarantee that the relationship wouldn't have broken up if you weren't married if the relationship breaks apart after marriage. Living together "happily" for a couple of years doesn't mean that you'll stay together once married. A lot of things happen in relationships, people grow, mature, the things they once valued when they were young no longer mean as much as they get older. Their views of the world change and attitudes change. There are NO guarantees whether living together outside of marriage or within marriage.

I would say date for two years before moving in and live together another two years before getting engaged. By 5 years you should know whether or not you want to marry the guy and spend the rest of your life together.

Well personally I wouldn't really even suggest living with someone before marriage. Why? Because I did once before and although it can work out, the divorce rates for people who live together before marriage are a lot higher than those that don't.

As far as a time limit, I guess you can't put one on it because it all depends on how much time you actually spend together. Plus with engagement, do you plan on having a long engagement or a short one. That matters too.

I'm sure alot of people would say not to move in before marriage, but I totally disagree. I dont think people should place time limits on stuff like that, a woman should just follow her own intitution, most times it never steers us wrong. I met my guy over the internet, six months I moved in with him and we are happy as ever. I would prefer living together before marriage because you really get to know who he really is before commiting the rest of your life to him. Society teaches you the do's and don'ts in a relationship and because of this the divorce rate is tremendously high. I wanna know who I'm marrying before I take that step and if it means living together, sleeping together, or whatever that goes againts societys norm, I'd say go for it.

I would say that is depends on your situation. I mean if you have been together a while and you don't have any issues you should move in together. But if there is ANY doubt in your mind you should not. Time is not really the enemy. Making sure that it is the RIGHT thing is more important. Trust your instincts
