Need some advice. Looking to heat an upstairs that's about..maybe 800-900 square feet. I live in the south, so winters aren't extremely harsh as they would be elsewhere. I figure maybe a natural gas wall heater might be sufficient to heat the upstairs, if put in a central location (hallway). I guess this would be an unvented model of some sort. Does anyone know a really good brand and/or model to go with. One that circulates the air well maybe?

We live in the south also & we have an infared gas heater that is mounted on the wall in between the living & dining room and we love it. it keeps the kitchen, dining, living & bedroom that is on that end of the house all nice & toasty in the winter. Our heater has 5 'eyes' on it, but I have never burned them all at one time. Usually three is just right. Those heaters also come with a thermostat on them. Mine doesn't, I have to turn it off & on & change the settings. Hope this helps. Check with your local gas company before buying a heater from Home Depot or Wal-Mart. Sometimes the gas co might have a special. I don't know the make & model of ours, but it did come from our gas co. I leave our ceiling fan on during the winter to push the heat down too. The heater heats beater than the furnace did before we got the heater. Hope this helps!!!

Yes just change the orfice in the burner and pilot if there is one. You may have a heater with an electric start. Most Propane Companys offer the service to convert your heater for a small fee. You can check with them

GET ELECTRIC & A SHOVEL TO THROW DOLLAR BILLS OUT THE WINDOW.

GAS IS GREAT, ALTHOUGH MOST W/ BUILT IN FANS DON'T REALLY BLOW MUCH.... USE A REGULAR FAN DON'T DISTURB FLAME!

MOST ALL NEW GAS BURNERS OUT OF THE BOX HAVE OXYGEN SENSORS THAT SHUT DOWN IF LOW 02!
THATS ALL YOU NEED FOR SAFETY + KEEP AWAY FROM FLAMABLES. HOME DEPOT HAS SOME GREAT LOOKING, METAL BOX GAS LOGS $300.00 ( CHINESE ).... I CAUGHT'EM @ SEASON CHANGE FOR $150.00 & SAW THEM AGAIN FOR 75.00 ( 30,000 BTU ( BRITISH THERMAL UNITS ) WILL HEAT WHOLE HOUSE - GOOD W/ CEILING FAN!!!

You might consider using electric instead of unvent gas.
