Why are so many americans so fat?

I used to think it was a myth, but it's soo true, i mean theres fast food in every contry, but why are soo many americans so fat?

There are more fast food restaurants in America than anywhere Else in the world. When people are at work and only have 30 minutes to an hour for lunch it's the most convenient. Also in a lot of work places and schools there are vending machines. In the vending machines there is nothing but junk food.

Living fast pace, fast life, fast foods, on the fast track. Not paying attention to the damage we are doing to our bodies, and just not making the time to do so. This is not only happening in the United States, and I for one am sorry to see this part of our culture spreading to other places in the world. We just have a head start, so if you are from another country learn from this mistake. We should all eat to live healthy long lives.. not live our lives to eat.

First of all Americans are not all fat. There are many factors to consider when you ask questions like this.

One: although it's extremely forgotten America used to be an agricultural nation. These people who tilled the land for profit are automatically going to be larger because of the work they did and will marry people of the same.

Two: America used to define itself as the melting pot. It's almost impossible to put a number on how many people from how many nations have poured into this country for whatever reason, be it escaping persecution or just looking for a better life. These other nationalities have larger people of their own. So you lose the ability to stereotype the whole.

Three: considering itself as the leading nation in the world, America has gotten into a pattern of social development that allows for a more leisurely lifestyle. This country was founded on the basis of having someone else work for you, or has everyone for gotten slavery. And as for slavery, don't you think the masters would treat their slaves like their livestock, valuing the biggest and brightest.

Four: fast food does not make you fat. Not expelling the energy does. Unfortunately with the loss of our need for hands on work and the invention of the office environment, individuals don't really get the daily physical work they need to maintain the long lean bodies that the media supports and flaunts, that would give you your basis of comparison.

Five: The idea of weight measurement is biased towards a particular sect of people, mainly Caucasian. With the invention of the fitness craze in the 60s and 70s and the idea of heroine chic, domesticated bodies have become unfavorable. Not all Americans fit this body type so the scales are really unbalanced. If 60% of Americans are considered overweight, then the real need is to adjust the curve.

Finally, angry and misunderstanding individuals have forced a large amount of the population indoors for fear of judgment. If people continue to go around carrying a high school mentality of expecting everyone to fit in, the unhappiness expressed by overeating will never go away.

Because alot of the Americans are workaholics, they don't really have to eat healthy food, so they eat fast foods. Most people also indulge in "junk food" to substitute for other needs and think its a result to many problems, not knowing that its causing one.

I think it has a lot to do with our diets not only as adults but as children as well. We are constantly eating on the go, which usually means food that is high in carbs or fat and not being active enough to balance it out.

HA! I can answer that one. My husband and I recently moved from Virginia to Germany because of the Air Force....and let me tell you what....I would give ANYTHING for an American Double Cheeseburger from McD's...lol. The american fast food chain's here in Europe are NOTHING like they are in the states. Oh how I miss the state's fast food! lol I know once I get back I will gain a good couple of pounds because it is just soooo good. Plus a lot of american's either don't have the time or are just too lazy to make a good nutritious meal...so why not go through the drive through when you don't have to get out of the car? lol

1. Guess its considered hep to have a soda, and pizza with lots of cheese.
2. SInce both are parents are hardworking, so there is a guilty sense of feeling so we spoil our children with money and then they eat fast food.
Obesity.

It's because America and Canada are the two highest countries on the budget scale. It's easy for people from North America to get because there are almost no famines, no plagues, and all that other stuff. Not to mention the freedom, and the attitude of all of us.

It's mostly because of the way our society has evolved. Everything is so easy here. There's fast food, Internet, T.V. Americans are just spoiled, I think. We've gotten lazy and we don't care.
