Because their base (the republicans) is made up largely of fundamentalists Christians. I'm not saying that all republicans are fundamentalists, but most fundamentalists are republicans. Calling democrats godless, the GOP thinks, will strike an emotional, if illogical, chord with their base.
Most of the people who say it here just parrot what they hear on right wind radio. If they gave it any thought they would realize how ridiculous it is to say that Democrats are Godless.

Can you show a link to the source of your info on church and divorce broken down by party lines? I would love to read that data.

I don't think ALL Republicans accuse ALL Democrats of being godless.

You have to admit, it is the liberals who are constantly trying to force religion into the shadows and not allow public expression of faith. You would think that the characters in a nativity scene were going to come alive and start killing people, the way some liberals react to them. God forbid a teacher were a cross to school or a policeman wear one on his collar. And lets discuss the war against Ten Commandment monuments....

I think it is more a liberal/conservative thing. In those terms, there are very stark differences between the religious/spiritual views of the groups.

In terms of Dems/Repubs, the differences are less striking. There are a lot of old-school southern Democrats that are very religious, and there are a lot of banker country-club RINOs that don't go to church at all.

I agree...and i don't know why they do that but the fact is they are...cause God is not about greed. And that's all I see out of Republicans, selfish money hungry could care less about human life. If there are any out there that aren't this way then I apologize. But from my experience I haven't met one that wasn't this way. They use Christianity as a front, the truth is they are the farthest from God.

Because Ann Coulter has a small penis and is envious. I'm sorry but i can't take a women with an Adam's Apple telling me i'm godless seriously, i just can't!

I have no idea. It's as if they don't know the difference between a political strategy and a religious ideology. I can only assume that, lacking the skills to argue for government policy to get elected, they have to resort to line drawing and assume that identifying themselves as the "only" religious party helps them to do so.

Republicans are desparate...they are NOW wanting to blame Clinton for all their woes...it doesn't wash. They are spinning and spinning, hoping for Gold from Straw....they obviously believe in fairytales.
IF this party wins in November, the only true effect it will have on me is to convince me, as I have suspected (after the American public RE-ELECTED Bush) is that we are a nation of blind, illogical, wishful, dreaming idiots. Good luck

Because democrats don't throw up religion as being the reason for laws that deny rights to others.

my only question is why would this matter? to many people being "godless" is equal to being sane. What the hell happened to church and state being separate? Did I miss something?

Because democrats are intelligent enough to separate their personal religious beliefs from their political beliefs.
They realize that religious beliefs do not make for good policy.
