That's horrible. Who would pretend they were dead? Alzheimer's is a horrible disease to watch progress. I will always believe what comes from the mouth of dementia patients is not 100% what they are thinking or not thinking.

It's one of my biggest fears in life.
I'm the HCPOA for my folks (who happen to be two of my best friends in the world), so I'll be in charge of their medical care when the time comes....
They sometimes joke about how they'd commit double suicide if one of them got Alzheimers. At least, I think they're joking.
I'm a nurse, & work in end-of-life care, so I'm familiar w/ how devastating it can be.
I just hope & pray neither of them does, cuz I don't want to have to watch that with my own loved ones.
Good question.

This is a very sad question because my dad does have Alzheimer's disease. It's not that bad yet (Thank God) but I would definitely continue going to see him even though it would be painful for me because I love and respect him! â¥

I would always go see them. There is always hope. My grandfather had Alzheimer's and for the last few years he called me Amy. No one knew who he thought I was, but when I would visit and bring him milkshakes, he always enjoyed our time together.

As their child, or as a parent, how could possibly look yourself in the mirror each day and be proud of who you are if you were to abandon them at this point in their life. It is not by their choice they have this terrible disease.

You should support them till their last moments. I have a tia and she has this dreaded desease. We go visit her as often as we can. She doesn't remember anymore but once in a while a miracle happens and she speaks.

No way, I would be by their side every day and help to take care of them and love them just as much as I ever did.
