I tried it briefly and all it did was make my nipples stick out. I have read that if you really want to use it to induce labor you have to rub each nipple for like 15 minute periods for a few hours time. I gave up on that, too much work. Stick to sex.

I try it with my first pregnancy. It did not help, but my daughter was also too big to pass through the birth canal. I have heard of women doing it religously and it does help. Make sure you are close enough to your due date though. My friends did nipple stimulation two hours at a time 3-4 times a day. whithin about a week to two weeks they all went into labor and had the ideal labor stories as well. It can;t hurt nothing try it.

Lisa S is "almost" right (but it isn't oxycontin... its oxytocin)
Nipple stimulation causes the body to release *oxytocin*, which like pitocin (a synthetic substance used to induce labor contractions) can cause uterine contractions. Nipple stimulation can lead to very long and very strong uterine contractions. This can be dangerous for your baby because it can cause your baby's heart rate to slow. You should only perform nipple stimulation if you have your doctors approval and even then you should monitor your contractions slowly to be sure you don't over stimulate. Generally you should ease off nipple stimulation during each contraction to help minimize hyper stimulation.

Nipple stimulation does cause contractions, but I don't really know if they are strong enough to cause labor ... unless it's time.

Real penile-vaginal intercourse induces labor and makes it less painful. It should be done around the 8th month.

according to research and dr's you would have to do that for 3 hrs a day for weeks to even start to see any difference and even then they never recommend you do that unsupervised because it can cause severe uterine contractions that may not even help labor progress

All the books and literature I have read say it's very dangerous! Labor will happen when it will happen...believe it or not - no one has been pregnant forever.
