I'd read they started their romance while filming, 'To Have & Have Not' in 1944.
Now, Bogey was 45 at the time, and Lauren Bacall was only 19. That's a 26 year difference.
While I'm sure old Bogey enjoyed the "veal Bacall", as a 42 yr old guy myself, I find it kinda creepy.
I'll look at younger women, but I don't try to chase them. I prefer women my age, whom I have commonality with.
Guys, Gals, your take on this?

Lee, there's a HUGE difference between 10 & 26, especially when the younger is not even 21.

They both were making movies and money , had things in common and starred in a few films together so they got to know each other very well before they where married. Stayed married until Humphrey died and she still living. Maybe it was her that prefer older, mature men, that had their life together and already established.

Tony Randall's wife was 50 years younger than him. They had their first child when he was 77 years old. He died 2 years ago, aged 84.

That's pretty extreme - but there have been May to December relationships in showbiz for many years.

Relationships are about the relationship - items in common. I guess showbiz is totally unrelated to any other profession. Being famous cuts you off from the world, if you want a private life. So I guess an actor may have more in common with an actress 26 younger than him, than he might have in common with a non-atress the same age as him.

In general, I agree with you but if you have read Lauren Bacall's autobiography, you would know how much those two truly loved each other. She states that her subsequent marriage to Jason Robards was a mistake because she still loved Bogey. Notice that she has never remarried after that.

How is this any different from Michael Douglas and Katherine Zeta-Jones or Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes? I am sure there have been cases of extreme age differences throughout time and will continue to be so. What is important is the true feelings of the couple, not the ages of each. However it is nice to hear from someone who appreciates maturity. It gives those of us who are no longer in our youth some hope.

Well, there is a 19 year difference between my boyfriend and I, and while it sounds a bit gooey, I think that love happens regardless of age. Now, I do think there are limits of good taste, I mean, I'm pretty sure Anna Nicole Smith didn't worship the ground her 91 year (or thereabouts) husband walked on! And my bf didn't really chase me, we just fell in love over common interests and a common way of thinking. It is a relief for me to have a guy that didn't play games, is mature and holds a steady job!!! Commonality is a relative term. For me, I had no commonality with men my age who seemed to deem me as prematurely middle-aged (as one of them so acidly termed it) and too intellectually deep. And now I couldn't be happier...

In my opinion, if two people are in love, age shouldn't matter. I'm ten years older than my wife & neither of us have any problems with the age difference.

i admire them although, oddly, i admire Bogart extra beneficial for a boy than i admire Bacall for a woman. possibly as a results of fact "Bacall" is to on the factor of "Al" it somewhat is a guy's call. Plus, you need to keep in mind that college young toddlers are merciless. i will see them doing advise issues extraordinarily if human beings talk Spanish on your portion of the international when you consider that "Bacall" is on the factor of "baca" meaning "roof rack" and "vaca" meaning "cow." Bogart is only too on the factor of "booger," too, yet i for my section understand a female who gave her youngest baby that nickname. I in ordinary terms deliver this up as a results of fact of my call and the hard call callings that I suffered for the two my first and final call. sigh despite if, they're stable names and those people who elevate that Bogie and Bacall have been fans are form of twisted as a results of fact, for sure, they do no longer look to be going to be in the event that they're you're young toddlers. i develop into only thinking of Bacall and the term "call female" yet it somewhat is only displaying my age, LOL! no one makes use of that factor era anymore. i admire like Bogart and Bacall plenty extra beneficial than Humphrey and Lauren. I knew a Lauren in college. Ugh. i does no longer call my dogs "Lauren."

Aww.... you are such a gentleman. It's nice to know there are still some of you around. Love is blind sometimes. I try not to judge...but if it were my 19 yr old daughter.....I don't know if I could stand it.

You are the first man that I have heard say that. It is much better to share a life and experiences with those that are seasoned as we ourselves are.
