I always bought the cheap ones from walmart before conception and then after I got pregnant I was prescribed some by my doctor... I now have 2 very healthy and very smart children with one on the way.... so I'm basically saying go with the cheap stuff for now and then take what the Dr. gives you.... Or you could just go to your doctor and ask for some... Good Luck... And Prenatal Vitamins DON'T help you conceive, They help you provide nutrients to the growing fetus after conception and they help you build up nutrition before conception....

A good prenatal vitamin is fine for conception. You don't need different vitamins for preconception and different ones for prenatal. Just take the same thing. I think PRIMACARE vitamins are among the best because they contain vitamins, minerals, calcium and essential fatty acids, which help the baby's brain develop.
Fatty acids are hard to get through diet since the chief sources are flaxseed and fatty fish (which you can't eat much at all during pregnancy due to the high methylmercurty levels.
However, your doctor needs to write a prescription for you to get PrimaCare, since its prescription-only. My health insurance covered them, though, so I only had a small copay.

A prenatal vitamine is a prenatal vitamine. You can get them over the counter at any drug store. The ones they suggest for women who are already pregnant are also suggested for women trying to concieve. Good Luck.

I have two children and I'm on my third now. :) When you go to your doctor he should give you prenatal vitamins. Usually it's the prenatal vitimins, Calcium Pills, Folic Acid Pills and Iron Pills. Be careful with the iron pills, they can give you more nausea than the pregnancy! Good Luck with the pregnancy!

Folic Acid is the most important thing in the prenatal vitamins, you can buy them at any drug store, just try to find the ones with the most folic acid.

start by taking one a day for women. it has enough folic acid you need daily. once you conceive your doctor will fill out a prescription for actual prenatal vitamins.

There are some good over the counter ones. You need one with folic acid. Ask the pharmacist, he can direct you to what he has.

prenatal vitamins do not help you get pregnant, all they do is give baby the nutrients it needs once you are pregnant. there pretty much all the same and you can get them at the drug stores, walmart, pretty much anywhere but again they do NOT help you get pregnant
