Man discovered hunting weapons, agriculture, boat building and many other sciences long before the written language. There are no records of the first scientists.

It depends on your definition of the word scientist. If you are talking about one who practices the scientific method (hypothesis, test, peer review, theory or restate hypothesis), then this is a rather recent philosophy, that came about in the 1700's, with a possiblity of any number of people being the first to formalize it. If, on the other hand, you mean anyone who unknowingly followed the precepts of the scientific method and therefore had the outward appearance of a scientist, then I would have to say that the first person who went out and got and maintained fire to be used for cooking, warmth, etc. He probably had to do it using a set of assumptions that he tested that approximated the scientific method.
