If you have no fixed abode then you can't be traced. No employer in their right mind would give a job to someone they couldn't trace should anything go wrong.
With that in mind, how do these people raise the money to pay for their caravans and 4x4s, their food, their clothes if not through criminal activity?
Notice the filth that is left over by travellers. Note the number of people threatened by travellers who know that nobody dare retaliate because it is too dangerous.
When children are threatened by grown men for their money/phone/dog/other how can anybody tolerate them?
To those who stick up for the travelling community, could you please explain how their behaviour is acceptable?
They are of no benefit to society, but because of the human rights laws (which are in need of updating imo) and the fact that it's so dangerous to challenge them that even the police run scared I don't know that there is anything that can be done.

I live in South Wales and a few years ago we had a load of pikeys set up camp around near where we live.
The destruction they wrought was unbeleivable. They set fire to a whole grove of trees (for no reason at all) and made the area a no go area for the locals.
They broke into cars and houses and stole stuff. One of them even tried to steal my dog!!!!
When they left I have never seen so much rubbish. Seriously, it was piled about 9 feet high in places - old cars, scrap metal, cardboard - it took the council weeks to clear it all away.
The area has never recovered. I always feel sad to see the blackened corpses of the trees that they destroyed.
Bastards.

How do you change a thousand year old way of life? I don't see the problem, no more than the so called general population, who also pollute, is, for the most part, barely educated enough to hold a job at the fast food joint, live in cities where crime is an epidemic and where people die from untreated diseases (because the health care system is the pits),hunger, exposure and abuse etc... Travellers, at least stick together and take care of their own. You chose to be what you are, maybe they did the same. Well, have a nice day! Cheers =)

Why are people sticking up for them? I'm sure there are some who are nice people but unfortunately most of them aren't. What on earth gives them the right to steal, litter drop and generally abuse the rest of the population... and then have naive do-gooders put in a good word for them!!

stronger laws to stop them trespassing on land. Then where would they go?
Police are very easy on the pikeys because they are scared of them. They can be a nasty bunch of people.
They are responsible for alot of burglary, shoplifting and bodge up jobs. But they never have permanent adresses so are invisible from the law. Is this acceptable??

A funny (TRUE) story from when I was a policeman. (You need to know that there was a cartoon in Viz called the TGBs - the Thieving Gipsy Bas***ds).
We stopped a lorry with a couple of our friends from the travelling community. For a cheap laugh, I asked the driver "Can I see your TGB licence please?" "No sorr", he replied, "I don't need one - the truck's under tree tons".
On a serious note, there is absolutely NOTHING you can do about them. They are considered a separate racial group and, if you're not careful, you will probably find you are committing a criminal offence by your comments.
Albeit they are absolutely true.

Take the so called 'passion' you have in despising 'these' people and DO SOMETHING TO HELP!!!!!
If you just sit back and whine and complain about OTHER people... what good is that gonna do!?!!?!!? Certainly doesn't make you any better for judging them without reason!
Get off your seat, go volunteer, LEARN about who they are what they're about and maybe, just maybe you'll understand that they're just like you but have been dealt a rough hand in life!
All things considered there are BAD people out in this world. But don't go labeling a 'group' of people because you dont know what they're about or understand WHY they are the way they are.
If anything, take the time to think about how you'd like others to stereotype you without fairness...
Education is the key.
Know what you're complaining about before doing so!

Thats not a nice generalisation to have of this group of people! Maybe if you knew at least one of them you wouldn't be do quick to tar all of them with the same brush!
Obviously some of them aren't the most desirable people but then neither are a lot of settled people!!
I had a girl in my class who was a traveller and she was lovely, is this not a form of racism?
