Kosher and Halal describe what is "fit and proper" to eat for two groups of people, Jews and Muslims.

These two terms are quite similar, but they are not. So in very strict religious sense, none of them can eat others food.

I don't know about the first, but I think the strictest Muslim dietary laws are pretty much the same as kosher Jewish practices.
