Because society has taught us that physical appearance is higher up on the list than morals or values

I do this backwards
The more dressed up and put on a person is the less likely I want anything to do with them.
It impresses me when you are comfortable with who you are and realise that these outward things have no meaning.
In having said that, I put meaning on it myself when I shake my head at people who think they have to dress for success but I don't know if that's the same thing.
It's like my 'radar' for people just sends me a signal that when someone thinks they have to dress up, nice whatever that those are people for me to avoid because they are caring more about their outsides than their insides.

Say if a door to door salesman comes around(my husband is one), and they are dressed up in suit and tie and cleanly shaven. Personally I think they are a person who is out 100% for the $ and not caring about what they are selling and who they are selling it to. They don't get my attenetion and don't make the sale
.
Anyway I think this is a natural response based on own own values. And western society is overly focused on what some is on the outside. The inside doesn't really matter. So is it any surprise that we get judged so harshly about it.

First impressions are important in putting thoughts into a person's head. The first thing when meeting someone that you get is what they look like...it is human nature.
