The point is to give you practice, help plant the info into your brain. The point is to backup, reinforce what you are learning or rather reinforce what you are being tought. Homework is a parents link to the happenings taking place in the class room.
Personally, I don't agree with the amount of assignments that are sent home, especially in the lower grades, but you know, everyone for hundreds of years have brought school work home, so... Although there are not many jobs that send work home with a person, and school is a child's job... It will be better for a person in the Big scheme of LIFE... CHIN UP, ENJOY, You truly will miss the school environment when you no longer have to go.

The main point of homework is that is the child's responsibility and not that of the parents. Basically children will get homework form kindergarten on. They have to get the homework done and it becomes a fact of life that starts early on. The parent's role is to know the homework requirements and make sure they are done on time. It is best to get to know the pattern of homework assignments. Actually, parents have to find the right balance between not doing the homework for their children, and helping only when needed. This is easier said than done. The more a parent is familiar with the child's and teacher's homework patterns, the easier the parent can adapt an approach. Again the main point, is that the homework is the child's responsibility.

Parents complain if I don't assign homework. I hate assigning it, I hate grading it but I need my job and I will get written up or put on a "behavior plan" -which means the principal will be in my face all year- if I don't give it!!! Oh and teachers have homework too..it's called Lesson Plans! I can teach without them but I have to prove I'm doing something other than showing movies all day!

The point of homework is to finish up the work at home that you should have finished at school, if you'd used your time wisely.

OR, the point of homework is to promote mastery so you can pass the tests mandated by the state.

No point, just gets in the way of your free time! I think it's different if you are studying for exams but in primary school....Forget it. Those years are surely for other things than to be bogged down with homework!!

teachers say it enforces the lesson learned that day and it helps them to know if or not you've actually learned anything. but for moms its just a way for us to pay ya'll back for what ya'll did to our bodies when you were born. oh, and amusement. there is deninitely amusement in watching ya'll sit there and whine over having to do 2 or 3 worksheets.
