Hey i have a sony vaio PCV RS710G, I just bought a NVIDIA 6800 Vanilla (the basic 6800). For it the power supply reccomended is 320W. But wen i was installing the card i cheked my computer and it says 266W max. but the video card installed and is running. It seems like the computer is running a little slower though. So my first question, am i damaging the video card or computer. And is there a way around the problem without buying a new PSU.

Also i have 2 dvd and dvdrw, floppy drive, bunch of card readers, if i take out the power cord from those, will it help. Actully i tried yanking them out but its like the power cords are stuck in there.

You are killing the power supply. I suggest getting a new one so that it can keep up with everything you are running off it. I would go with at least 400w with everything you have running.

I would advise removing the video card until you have a new power supply, thats why your computer is running slower now.

im sorry but the best solution is buying new PSU, about 400 to 600W..with all the peripherals attached to your PC im sure soon the PSU will die down, say using the DVD drive watching DVD movies, the video card using a lot of wattage as will as the DVD drive..its under wattage. but its likely the PSU will give up not the PC itself..

you need to buy a bigger power supply i suggest you go to www.newegg.com ,they are the most reasonable price for a 700 watt power supply about 200$ ,and this should take care of your problem
