friend of mine passed away last year suddenly, and at a young age (28)..my fiancee and i moved in with his widow recently. and last night i had a dream...i wont include anything but the end as to shorten this ?...he grabbed my face gently and i did the same..(not sexually) and he said "you should see it here.its beautiful" i was crying and he looked at me and smiled, and said "i have to go now, goodbye my friend." i was crying bad and woke up.my ? is.. im a realist and completely deny the existance of god.hell i believe in UFO's before god. i believe in the soul as energy to be released into the universe or perhaps another dimention such as in M theory..but this dream has shaken my unshakeable belief in the real as i know it..are dreams spiritual or just built up feelings overloaded in the mind? im just looking for opinions to steer me back on track into my cofort zone of realism.

I believe dreams are a way in which our subconscious makes sense of our feelings. They can mean everything or nothing- it depends on hoe you interpret them. I'd say that when you moved in with your friend's widow, there were some left over emotions from last year when your friend passed away. Since it was a shock and understandably, it would have been, there may have been issues which you felt you couldn't deal with at the time. I'm sure that this dream is nothing to worry about and you should think of it as a way to see your friend at rest, and that he has come to accept his mortality.
Or possibly, as you say, our energy is released into the universe. It may be that this energy congregates where it was most at peace or where the individual felt safe. When we are asleep we are more open to experiences that when awake. we could just brush off as a shiver or goosebumps. I hope you manage to resolve any issues regarding your friend and that you have a peaceful night's sleep tonight.
Hope I've helped somehow xxx

Perhaps the exclusive reason for the dream in the first place was to "shaken your unshakable belief in the real." I see nothing wrong in the way that you believe it to be in the end, as I incorporate that belief as well. The truth of the matter is, we don't know what awaits us on the other side, so exactly why would we develop such staunch beliefs that are so rigid and unbending instead of entertaining more than one perspective on the matter. What, for example, if the place we go after we leave here is all about that one perspective that we nurtured while we were here. I think at that point I would be inclined to wish that I included more than one possibility for the sake of growth and continuing enlightenment. I would also be shaken if I was jarred out of my comfort zone, but why not be comfortable with more than one possibility? Be comfortable in just being and let everything else be. Don't be afraid to throw down the walls and invite the universe in. I think that is what your friend was trying to tell you.

I would say that the majority of dreams are just your subconscious mind weaving things together, or mind mud, as you call it. Yet sometimes, dreams happen that are related to real events and it's hard to ignore the relationship. Indeed, some dreams appear so real, so focused that they distinguish themselves from the usual dreams we have.

It is interesting that you mention Membrane Theory as a possible explanation of what happens to our essence after this life ends. I've often wondered if amongst the 11 dimensions that M theory allows for, if one of those dimensions is composed of pure thought, possibly governing the traits of the other 10 dimensions and thereby controlling the creation of new universes as the membranes collide.

some american indian cultures believe that life is a dream within a dream and that death is the passing from one dream to another. this is not the dream that you dream while you are sleeping. your sleeping dream is the dream that is generated by your subconscious while you are at rest. while in this state your conscious mind tries to interput the feelings that flow from your subconscious. undrstand and accept that your unconscius is your id, the conection between you and everything. follow your intuition and you may come to discover that all things are possible.

in my opinion ( wich is probably too crazy for anyone to belive):
dreams are a gate way to reality. i think this life, the one we're in right now is the dream, while the dreams are just away to escape to reality. Like say : when u die, you would actually wake up to a diff world. That's how i see it anyway. MYabe your friend is in that world and in the time u got there through your dream, he told u what's it like.....well that's my thought on it

At least one function of dreaming is to move short term memory and unrelated events into long term memory by associating them with other memories and building references and relationships.

I think some dreams are spiritual and others are just mud. Maybe you just thought you were asleep and really your friend came to see you.
