Had a similar question at school 8 years ago, but we had to choose three items.
Water & blanket. Water stops your body from de-hydrating & you could survive a 50 mile trek with this much water. The blanket would make you sweat a lot, but it keeps a lot of it inside your body so you don't need to drink as much. So in a way this is acting as extra water. It would also keep you warm at night.
3rd choice would be the mirror to reflect off the sun, but you have more chance of making a 50 mile walk rather than getting noticed from a passing aircraft. The aim is to make that 50 mile trip & you won't make it without that blanket.
Salt makes you thirsty so the tablets are no good. DRIED fruit is no good. Map is no good because you don't get any landmarks in the Sahara. Matches are no good because you have nothing to set fire to to get attention (apart from your clothes).

The Blanket and the Salt Tablets.
The Blanket to protect myself from the Sun during the day while I rested. And to keep me warm at night while I traveled the 50 miles towards the nearest settlement.
The salt tablets to help me retain water while I'm resting during the day.
Guessing the sun sets around 7 should give me at least 12-14 hours of cooler/sun free time to get to the settlement.
If I walk at 3-4 miles per hour, I should be able to arrive in one nights travel.

5 litres of water- standard. and dried fruit because im a hungry hippo! i could just try and bury myself in the sand at night to try an keep warm. who;s gonna wanna rescue you 50 miles away if they could see a flashing mirror? box of matches?erm? no. an in your question you dont say i'd be lost an that its only 50 miles from the nearest settlement, so that rules out the map. as for salt tablets i wouldnt need them as 50 miles isnt thet far an the water an fruit would keep me till then- hopefully! hope you tell us what you would choose!

5 liters of water and the blanket. The water will hydrate you until you reach a settlement if you ration it conservatively. You can last longer without food than you can without water knowing your body is 85% water. Plus it gets hot during the day.
The blanket can help at night since temperatures get pretty chilly, it would also help rise your body temperature in order to keep you warm. It also helps out during the day as a shade from the sun.

A blanket, to cover my head so I don't get sun sroke.
Mirror, to call for help and to light a fire.
You can drink water from cactus and there's got to be a cactus around in a desert. Even in Sahara. Plus it didn't say if it was safe water. Drink your own sweat for salt. Map of the area would be just sand. Box of matches and dried fruit, who would take these? So my answer is a blanket and mirror.

I would choose for obvious reasons the 5 litres of water.
Then the box of matches, as even in the desert you can find bits of very dried wood & sticks, as the heat is intense anyway a fire is not gonna make any difference to your body temp BUT will attract a lot of attention, also keep you warm at night & keep predetors away.

A mirror and water. If you are in the middle of the Sahara you can forget trying to walk very far because you won't make it - that gets rid of the map idea.
A mirror should be used to attract the attention of a rescue party or travellers.
You want water to prevent yourself getting dehydrated while waiting/hoping to be rescued.

salt tablets - body struggles to copy with out salt
blanket- so to cover your self while out in the sun and to use as a cape in the evenings and early mornings as thats the only sane time to move around + in the day you need to dig a hole to get in to avoid the heat and cover with the blanket but as its only 50 miles you can make that in 2 days at an average speed of 4 miles an hour
as for the water leave it the body will suvive for that time and it will slow you down as you go as 5 liters =to 5 kg not a lot but in that heat and conditions it will feel like a ton

water as you can use that for drinking and then keep the bottle to pee in and if you line it up right in the sand overnight you can extract normal water from the pee
a blanket would be no point as it is better to travel at night as cooler thus using not much water
box of matches useless as there is no wood
salt tablets are useful but on a 50 hike no point
Dried fruit would have energy but your body can sustain no food for up to 4 days in the dessert so no point
Mirror might be useful to advise planes for sos but they would take a couple of days to get to you so no point
map is a good idea as you need to know where your going
