I have been diagnosed with depression recently and have been going thru a lot of unusual stress. I know in the past I've dealt with stress by sleeping, but it's really scaring my husband that i sleep so much. & this is not a bored thing, its the fact that I'm exhausted and must sleep in order to function. any suggestions? i've tried caffiene and talked with my doctor who tells me to rest my body when it needs resting, not to push myself...

Insomnia and oversleeping are physical symptoms of clinical depression.

Exercise in the morning would help you overcome it.Natural remedies are better but since you are clinically depressed, antidepressants are helpful with relaxation and exercise.

Please see a psychiatrist. Your family doctor doesn't seem to know much about depression. The more you sleep, the more depressed you are likely to get. What you probably need is an increase in dose or a different antidepressant. Also, make sure you are not sick. I was constantly tired for almost a year. Then the doctor finally told me that my tonsills were enlarged. After I had them removed, I felt much better. I don't sleep nearly as much anymore and I feel wide awake during the day.

Hello,
You may have sleep apnea which prevents you from having deep rest full sleep. A sleep study prescribed by your doctor will diagnose your sleep patterns. I, like you used to sleep all the time till I went to doctor and discovered my sleep apnea problem. Now I am a different person with lots of energy and no naps during day. Good luck.

Perhaps you are making up? Your body needs to rest. Your systems need a proper rest. Just let yourself relax and sleep without worries. Depression might have hurt your body and now's the time to recover. With sleeping.

I am assuming your dr put you on anti depressants. I would figure out what is toooo much sleep? How many hours are we talking about. You may also want to be checked for sleep apnia. Even though you are sleeping maybe it is restless sleep. Tell your husband you are working on it and you need time. Talk to your doctor and let him advise you along with your common sense.

I'm a depressive, but usually when I want to avoid making a life changing decision (mate, job, move) I sleep nearly twice as much. Cure = decide (not deciding is a decision). Even if you don't like the result, at least you don't sleep through it.

Have you been tested for anemia? Do you take vitamins? I always required more sleep than most people. When I was pregnant, I found out that I was anemic. Now, I take unprescribed iron pills and a multivitamin every day, and there's definitely a difference. Hope this helps!

If you sleep more than 9 hrs a day you have to look for pharmacological management. Bupropion XL 150 in the morning may help you. Talk to your doctor about it.

try to adjust your body to a schedule allowing yourself at least eight hours of sleep at night!! You may want to take some vitamins and try to do more things throughout the day so that your body will relax more when you do go to sleep!!! You may want to get a second opinion to find out what's going on and causing you to sleep so much!!

I too, experience chronic depression. I'm diagnosed with either situational depression, Asberger's, attention deficit, or all three.

Sleep is healing, in the proper amount. Sleep too much and your muscles will start to atrophy, your bones will weaken, your skin will develop ulcers. I suggest you decide if you want to heal, or if you want to slowly die.

Go get treatment.
