We went away on vacation and came back to a horrible smell : our hamster had escaped his cage and died. We had a neighbor checking on him but she could not find him in the house. I found him this morning under my son's bed so we gave him a send off and now the floor still stinks. There was a stain, more likely dried blood, but I got that up. I have used Arm & Hammer Carpet but it isn't helping too good. Anyone with a similar problem or a good smell fixer, please HELP!!!!

If there's a decaying body under the floor (could well be, as evidenced by the smell), pry up the boards and remove it (if you can even find it). Otherwise, put some quicklime in there. For the odor, use a combo of Lysol and baking soda. You'll probably have to repeat at least once. Don't worry...a hamster will decay rapidly and the smell will leave...but you'll always have a tiny little bunch of hamster bones in your house!!!!

What would concern ME was: what caused the blood?! Sounds like you might have rats too. Anyway, let's hope it didn't die with A GRUDGE! Screeek!!!

Well, I few years ago I had a hamster who passed away from what is called "Wet Tail" This is a condition that is common in rodents and happens when they are exposed to stress and they don't receive a diet with all of the necessary nutrients that they need. Some of the symptoms include all of the things you mentioned your hamster is showing. It sounds to me that your hamster has wet tail and at this stage, he could be dead at any moment. I am so sorry for your loss = ( Hope this helped = )

cantaloupe will absorb as will baking soda. of course you have to use the carpet cleaner on the carpet to remove the solids first which it seems you have done. Apply the baking soda a few times letting it set before vacuuming it up. Then try cutting a cantaloupe and let it absorb some of the odor. There are things available to mask the smell but I would use them as a last resort.
