Women who are concerned about their health, environment and the extortionate prices on commercial tampons – commercial tampons are made from synthetic materials and contain chemicals harmful to the vagina and general health, during manufacturing these chemicals are put into the environment, there also other environmental issues with tampons such as waste in both disposal and manufacturing and unnecessary use of energy.
Some women use organic or sponge tampons, and to be honest most women who are concerned about their health and environment use menstrual cups or cloth pads, but I do know quite a few women who roll their own tampons because it is safer and greener – in short, the sort of women who are concerned about their health.

Women that are incarcarated. It takes a special talent to turn a pad into a couple of tampons, kind of like rolling cigarettes. The more you practice the better you get at it and they really work too. This is true!

Women who want try do-it yourself would be sea sponges instead and cut them the right size. Tried it and didn't like the trouble with washing and storing. Prefer my Diva cup instead. Ain't perfect but nothing more to buy, empty it morning and evening only so no trouble and still better for the environment!
Can't imagine someone doing her own cotton tampons...
