When making movie copies my PC slows down to a crawl, checking mail or surfing are very slow, I burn from my DVD drive to my hard drive using DVD Fab. Is there anyway to speed the PC up when copying DVDs.
I have 1GB of ram and 250GB of hard drive using Windows XP. The copying process seems to run fast "3 hour movie copies in 1 hour" just that I can't run any other pregram till its finished. Thanks Joe

I have taken a class in transferring VHS to DVD, the instructor told us that you should have a processor that is rated at 2.0Ghz clock speed and at least 1GB of RAM. These are the MINIMUMS. He also said that you cannot do anything else on the computer once you start the transfer process. Make sure that your PC is free of spyware etc. and do a defrag. That will let your computer run as fast as possible. Remember, 1GB of hard drive space is needed for each hour of video.

i think the problem u face is either due to that the contents in ur hardisk is not propperly arranged, for that u may go into the control pane or directly take the property of a drive in that u will find a menu for tools in that take disk defragmenter and defragment each n every drives.then even if the problem continues this indicates that there are many a programmes running in the background, that makes ur pc jammed.try disableing such programmes.while burning cds n when not in net try to switch off ur antivirus protection n also make sure u have enough free space(10%)in each hard drives .then also there is a maximum limiting speed for dvd/cd drives that usually makes it slow.try loking to fix problems with ur dvd/cd drive

1. Check for viruses, if there are none quickly go to point three... 2. Got an old processor? 3. Check the coolers! If you don't have a proper cooler the motherboard may go up in smoke! If you have a computer running on Intel, it's made specifically to slow down/freeze if the temperature gets too high and there will be no harm. 4. Sorry, ran out of ideas... Good luck, Mc837.

Very common. When burning, the data is cashed to you hard drive and this uses a lot of resources (memory and hard drive). Slow down your burn speed and you speed up, or just accept it that you can't do much with your PC while you are burning.
