You know when I was young the Democrats WERE the Republicans. Is it a world gone mad? How is that "progressive"?

Not just Iraq. They want all the troops brought home right? Money spent on problems at home only. That's what I read here.

I don't know what you mean about Democrats being Republicans in the past.

Southern Democrats who were racist switched in the 1960's and became Republicans.

Democrats are in favor of balanced budgets and oppose unrestrained deficit spending. That changed perhaps in the 1950's.

Democrats believe in going to war if the US has been attacked or there is an imminent threat of war.

If you don't understand what "progressive" means as a political philosophy perhaps you should look this up. The meaning is different from the word "progress".

So when you were young the Republicans were the Democrats. Then what sense would it make to blame Democrats or Republicans of today with the Republicans and Democrats of the past if the tables were turned? Say it enough and you'll fool youself. If you believe that's what the Democratic platform is, keep thinking it and it'll become true in your mind alone.

With the republicans in majority in every branch of govt, I'd say that this administartion is responsible for the shift. The problem is that only certain dems and reps are popular, and they tend to be the most extreme ones. Most of the moderates on both sides are never heard from. If I only had bullies to play with, I would play by myself as well...I'm interested to see how many people will vote third party this year. For once, I think that a third party vote won't split one side's votes, it will split both sides. And maybe no candidate will receive the 35% (guessing) needed to win, and it will have to go back to the voters...a girl can dream right?

If you're talking about the Iraq war, Democrats are correctly questioning the reasons that we are there. They are right to be suspicous with no links between Hussein and al Qaeda or the WMDs that haven't been found. They are not playing the parts of the blind sheep that the conservatives would have them play.

It's because the right and left of America is getting pushed farther out. "Polarization". Republicans now are farther right than 20 years ago, and the left wasn't this far left.

Democrats do not have a platform to stand on anymore, they don't have a set of goals of how things should work. They really just attack other ideals that don't line up with how they feel things should work. This will get you nowhere.
