He's a three and a half year old who is very creative and imaginative. It's fairly normal for small children to have these kinds of "friends". On the other hand, maybe he's seeing ghosts. Is your house/area haunted???

Maybe he / she is bored and needs more stimulation - my son has a high imagination - probably due to Omega 3 capsules

That they are creative.

It's normal - as long as he/she is still getting attention and love from his/her parents. If not, he/she could be creating and imaginary friend to get what they are lacking.

No worries hon, my 8 year old had an imaginary "friend" named Cornelius. Cornelius came about when my son was 5. I suspect he is dead now so don't sweat it.

perhaps the child is lonely. needs some friends of the same age or just someone to talk to.

it means your child has a wonderful imagination.. i would encourage the child. play with them thats what we do with our child and her friend Wendy.

our daughter has us set the table so wendy can eat with us. we tuck them both in at night.. no harm in all of this. just play along

They all have them, I wouldn't worry about it. Might be loniness, or just using their creativity. I have heard of this alot. There is nothing distructive about it.
