I used to drink 2-3 drinks on average, daily for the past two years. Some days 4-6 drinks, but only on weekends or special occasions. About two weeks ago, the effects of alcohol started to change. I would drink, but I'd barely feel the effects. After sleeping, the following morning I'd then be tipsy. But it would only last minutes to a few hours.

Eventually, liquor started giving me a sick feeling. So I started drinking beer only. But since yesterday, I can't even finish one beer now. As I drink it, I feel light-headed and nausea instead of a buzz. It wears off quickly, but after I go to sleep I wake up feeling drunk. Not tipsy, but Drunk! Even after one beer! Is this normal? Why can't I hold my alcohol anymore?

I know many of you aren't doctors but any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

My boyfriend reacts the same why to alcohol. He only has a drink or 2, goes to bed feeling fine, then wakes up drunk. It has to do with how your body reacts to the alcohol. It can almost be viewed as an allergy... Your body decides not to digest the alcohol, so instead hold on to it. Eventually your stomach realizes it's not going to win, so it digests the drink. The process, being so slow, won't show it's side effects (buzz) until much later on. That's why you wake up drunk.

There is a blood test that can determine if you have liver or stomach damage, it's not expensive and very common.

Meanwhile drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day and try to not drink any more alcohol till you do the test or see a doctor.

A high percentage of people actually have allergic reactions to alcohol. Beer in particular because of the hops.

I went through the same transition as you have but I drank maybe twice what you did, now I feel similar effects to you.

Alcohol isn't all it's cracked up to be anyway. What do you need it for? Jack Schitt.

Get an allergy test if you need verification.

You possibly could have a liver ailment, possibly hepatitis. Or you may have a blood ailment or kidney ailment that may be impeding your body's ability to get rid of the alcohol. Depending on the type of alcohol you ingested, it may have had a profound effect on your brain tissue also. Beers probably would not do much harm, but excessive Vodka, Tequila, Bacardi 151, and Everclear may have done some significant harm.
