My wife of 7 years filed for divorce while I was away at war. We were getting along fine before I left. Could it be anything other than an affair? Does that necssarily mean her new guy is better looking and smarter or did he just give her attention when she was lonely?

he might be more dependable and dont take that the wrong way but she might just need all the attention all the time and you my friend are a soldier and your attention is to help people and serve for the country and she needs someone who stays in the states thats all it doesnt mean you didnt do your best it just means she is more neddy than you can give

As a military wife myself, I know how hard it is when a husband goes away. However, that does not mean the only reason she wants a divorce is because of an affair. While it is a possibility, because if I've seen it once I've seen it 100 times, it doesn't mean it the only thing it could be. Maybe she couldn't handle the military lifestyle. They say being a military wife is one of the hardest jobs, and it is. Maybe she didn't bargain for just how much you would be gone. Maybe she did get lonely. That doesn't mean the other guy was smarter or better looking though. The difference would be that he was THERE. Maybe she was worried that you were cheating on her. Its amazing the tricks the female mind can play when given the time. I also served in the Navy for 5 years, and men who claimed to love their wives were the first once in strip clubs and buying prostitutes. In my opinion, ask her. You may not get a straight answer, but let her know that you understand how hard it was for her while you were gone. If she knows you understand what her situation was, she may be more open. On the other hand, don't beat yourself up if that is the reason. Thank you for defending our freedom!

It's hard to say when you don't know for sure that she is with someone else but i believe that if it is for someone else then yes it is probably because of her getting attention while she was lonely. How long were you gone? It could be many things other than an affair thought.

It doesn't necessarily mean it was an affair; but on the other hand why would you care; I mean she filed while you were at war?! Its not like you were home to make her even more unhappy, she could have waited. But all that aside, you won't know why, until you ask her. Maybe she did find someone else, or maybe she felt like she was already single.....

Honestly I think she is somone who is ungreatfull for your hard work you do for this country. I feel like everyone out there deserves respect and honor for what they are doing, not a slap in the face like your wife gave you. Accept her divorce, and move on holding your head up high, I'm sure that her new man is not 1/2 the man you are. You are a brave person for doing what you do and you defenantly dont need to be with somone who is not going to appriciate it! GOOD LUCK..and GOD BLESS!!

Maybe she couldn't deal with the fact that you are away from her. She doesn't know what you are doing over there and you don't know what she is doing over here.
Were you in the same profession as you are now when you both got married? If so she knew what she was getting herself in to.
You both should TALK to each other. People aren't mind readers. Communication and HONESTY is the key in relationships. Without that you have NOTHING.

It could be none of those reasons, maybe she is tired of military life, and the possibility that she will lose you to something even bigger than her, something she has no power over. Maybe she just wants to be free.There is more to a woman then her need for a man.Good Luck, let go, move on.

He gave her attention when she was lonley and has been there when you could'nt be, and she fell for him. Its not always because someone is better looking or smarter maybe you wern't meant to be.

i dont know what it could be but i would say you are definitely better off without her, i mean that is terrible... she divorces you while youre off fighting for our country...nice.i definitely dont think it means the new guy is better in any way, like you said he probably just happened to be their when you couldnt be. thank you

My guess was that she was probably lonely. Without knowing the whole story I think what she did was really mean.
