Please, get your papers and come on over. You already do a better job than many who were born here. While grammar and syntax is important, the real purpose of language is to communicate. You seem able to do that right now. If you do come to America ask an American friend to help you. I have done that very thing for two Russian immigrants. They still have an accent but their sentence structure is as good as any native.

How about a first lesson from an American friend.

I would write: "If I move to American, how much time would it take to learn English?"
There are a number of other ways to formulate the question but I won't go beyond the one I wrote.

Good luck and please don't let any language concerns stop you. I assure you, you will to fine. In fact, if you get here and have a problem, contact me through my profile, I'll help you!!!

If you watched a lot of TV, spent a lot of time around others that spoke english, etc I would think 6 months or less.

Probably very quickly. It looks like you have a very good start. There are Literacy Councils set up in most states and populated cities that offer free tutoring in English. Just look up 'Literacy Council in (state you're in).
