Typically you would have one god mother and two god fathers for a boy and vice versa for a girl. However, I think it is really up to you. I have three godmothers and two godfathers as my mum could not decide who she wanted.

This is a very personal choice and only you can decide how many to have. One of my children has two godmothers and three godfathers and this was not a problem. If all these men want to be part of your child's life then this child is very lucky and blessed.

You can have as many as you want. Traditionally it's two men and a woman for boys, but it's up to you who you have. I recently went to a christening where there were six godparents (four godfathers and two godmothers)

You can have as many as you like but normally for a boy it is 2 godfathers and one godmother

Don't worry - 3 is fine! There is only 'tradition' (as others have outlined above) so whatever you choose is ok.

My daughter had what I thought was 'the quota' - 2 men, 2 women and then the vicar asked me if there was anyone else I felt would be good. My brother and his wife are muslims and I joked and said 'well I think they would actually give her fantastic moral and spiritual guidance' and he said 'well ok then'. The wording was changed slightly for them, so they are her 'Sponsors' as opposed to Godparents.

This happened 2 yrs ago (Church of England) and as far as I am aware its the first time that this has happened.

So go with who you want and who you feel will give your son the best direction in life.

There is no upper limit. The standard number is two Godfathers and one Godmother for a boy, but you can choose all three men if you want to. No dilemma at all, in fact!

u can officially have as many godparents as u like, though in my opinion a godmother and father is a special bond with the child and there should oonly b 2 one of each sex or 2 of the same sex. remember that if god forbid ne thing happened to u and ur partner/husband then the godparents r gaurdians so u want the child to have a speciall unbreakable bond with the child. it should not b a traditional or religious issue but a loving caring trusting issue. an issue that needs to b thought out to the highest order.it is a special bond with 2 people outside the immediate family i.e. mother father brother sister. my mother is godmother to one of my sons and the bond is stronger than that of jus a grandson grandma bond it is sooo special and i know if anything happened to us then he wud b looked after like a son. it is not tradition or views of the church it is love and caring if that makes sense. good luck

Traditionally boys have 2 godfathers and one godmother (vice versa for girls) However there is no limit on the number of God parents of either sex - look at the royal family - they have loads of each sex and the queen is head of the Church of England so it must be alright!
