Much depends on your office and what other people are wearing and what you are doing or if your job involves meeting the public. Take at a look at your co workers and then try to match the smartest of them them with your own style.

I would generally wear a dark or grey skirt suit or pant suit with a white or light coloured blouse. Dress shoes with close toes and about 3-4" heels. Or similar ankle boots with pants. That is a good business outfit for a job that does not involve too much running around and smart for meetings or public contact. It suits the kind of work I do.

If the office is more casual then perhaps slacks and a knitted top or plain top. Cashmere sweaters or blouse would be good alternatives. Perhaps a jacket you can take off to do your work. Lower heels if you are going to be doing manual tasks like filing or post room work.

The things to be careful about are open toes, bare legs, low necklines, jeans or trainer shoes. You may be able to get away with just one of those things in the right circumstance but generally dressing for success at business involves a more conservative style. Things to avoid at any cost would be bare stomach, excessive make up, low jeans or high skirts. You are representing the company so you need give the right image.

If you want to bare flesh then go for bare arms but have a jacket on hand with which you can cover up for meetings etc or if the occasion arises.

If the firm has dress down days then follow that, but always try to be among the smartest and cleanest given what others are wearing on those days.
