Medical Marijuana.
Incase you haven't heard about that..it's debatable whether cancer patients should be able to use it to ease the pain of Chemo therapy.
I did a paper on Medical Marijuana one time, and it was a huge sucess. I got an A+ on my paper!

Abortion is always a hot political field, but I suggest writing about something you have personal knowledge of. The more knowledge you have on the topic the deeper and better the paper will be. Write about the pros and cons of internet "answers" and the responses you've received. I'm sure yahoo answers would like that! Remember an argument does not need to be offensive or defensive, it only needs to have an opposing viewpoint. Therefore, choose carefully and either do the research or choose a topic you have a stand on, or know a great deal about. Is bobber fishing better or worse than fly fishing, why? Explain. Does the music in a waiting room really help settle nerves or does it irrate them? How? These are the ways, topics, and manners you can develop an effective argument paper. Good luck!

Anything controversial.
It depends on the subject you want and what course it is for. For example examining the work of Dr. Phillip Rushton can be viewed as a thing that works in english lit, anthropology, medicine, sociology and a number of other courses. Please note that I do not uphold as valid the research of Rushton. It is an example of something controversial.

Whether the gun laws in America, where citizens have the rights to defend themselves, are better than the gun bans in countries such as England & Australia, which have seen astronomical rises in crimes since the implementation of their laws.
Some people have brought up Japan, but their laws are quite draconian.

Death penalty, which is more humane, lethal injection or the electric chair?
I would not go to the subject of abortion, as it can be sensitive to others in the class.
