Attracting and maintaining students' attention these days is getting more and more difficult, but shouting doesn't help, really. Hence, it is NEVER okay for a teacher to shout. Shouting is a desperate act to attract student's attention, which generally do not work for a sustained period of time, and it shows a lack of self-control.

Only after having half strangled one of the unruly brats they have to deal with nowadays. I take my hat off to teachers, they have a terrible life in modern british schools, Bring back the cane I say, it did me no harm and instilled a little fear and respect into me when I needed it. All these bleeding heart liberals need to spend a month teaching before they spout on about child abuse etc, when teachers are doing their best to give children an education
Never mind shouting if I were a teacher I would Scream !

When the child ignores her after all the teacher is teaching about 20-30 kids they need to be heard especially if the child has already been warned. My teacher never shouted at us just throw the chalk eraser at us.

I've stopped raising my voice (I've only 'shouted' about 3 times, and they darn well deserved it) - I just explain clearly what behaviour is not allowed, tell them that they will get a detention if they do it ... and make sure I have a large pad of detention slips at the ready.
They're starting to get the message, I think.

Shouting is a sign of lack of control. However we are human, and sometimes it inevitably happens. Voice is your ultimate weapon and removing the child to a quiet corner for quiet but controlled and serious words is far more effective in my opinion

Anytime they don't have a sore voice. But if you're shouting people think that it's ok to talk.
Personally I don't think it matters as long as the teacher is respected.

Instead of shouting I become more quiet. I will ask in a very quiet voice "raise your hand if you can hear me" . Then I wait . Usually, several kids will raise their hands and get quiet. The others notice and then get quiet too. It doesn't always work but almost every time it does.
