i think if all the students are on the floor, the teacher can be on the floor as well. it might be a discussion based lesson, where students might be in a circle and the teacher is part of the circle.

As long as the Teacher is visible to everyone (children, and visitors like Principal who might stop in); providing the school does not have rules prohibiting floor sitting; and it functions to help the children learn ... you're good.
It would be a source of many laughs if the Teacher was a freak about it though. Like during an exam the Teacher sits on the floor and meditates ... well I'm sure all the students couldn't focus on taking the test, and they'd stare at the sitting Teacher ... giggle - imagination gone astray - giggle ... sorry.

As long as the kids are on the floor, otherwise wouldn't it be odd for the teacher to be on the floor and the kids in their desks?
I think anytime the classroom discussion is casual (reading to young kids, talking about certain subjects) it's a good way for the teacher to be on the same level as the kids. During a math lesson, while the kids are taking a test, or with older (high school) kids it's probably a bad idea.

I believe it is fine for a teacher to sit on the floor with their students if the students are also - I just do not promote letting students sit in laps, etc. With younger children it is very common for them to want to sit near/on the teacher. But I do believe it creates a sense of closeness if the teacher is reading, discussing, etc. I also like the idea of sitting with students during pep rallies, etc in the gymnasium when they are sitting on the floor also. Some teachers look very authoritarian sitting above the children - I'd like to share in the fun during special events.

Whenever they feel like it! If they are teaching younger kids, which sit on the floor all the time, it will make them feel more comfortable...kinda like you wanna be their friend. I volunteered at Head Start over the summer and whenever the kids were on the floor, so was I. They opened up to me a lot quicker that way.

I think it depends on the age you are teaching and the reason in which you would be sitting on the floor. If you are teaching older kids and trying to be cool....not a good idea. But with little kids (elementary age) not a big deal.

When he gets home - in a job like ours you are unlikely to be able to afford any furniture.
In any case when you have finished foraging through dustbins to find your dinner you'll be too tired so maybe you shouldn't sit on the floor you should just go to bed.
